AVON CITIZEN'S POLICE ACADEMY
WHAT IS IT?
The Avon Citizen's Police Academy is a FREE, 30 hour block of instruction, sponsored by the Avon Police Department, designed to give citizens knowledge about how the Avon Police Department operates, our policies, procedures, programs, and challenges we face daily. In addition, you will meet some of the men and women on our department and get to know them not only as officers, but as people.
Participants will commit to meeting once a week for 3 hours, for 10 consecutive weeks and then graduate from the academy on the following week. This is an opportunity to meet members of the department, receive some of the same specialized training that the officers receive, learn and understand the law enforcement profession, as well as meet fellow citizens.
WHEN AND WHERE?
Class begins Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Avon Police Department in the Avon Town Court room.
WHO MAY ATTEND?
Citizens at least 21 years of age, with no criminal history, and who live or work with in the Town of Avon. We will make every effort to have the classes represent the community which the police department serves.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?
The Avon Police Department feels that it is important that the citizens participate to better understand the law, and in many cases its limitations. To understand that there are strategies and problem solving going on behind the scenes, as well as capable, responsible officers within their community who have made it their career choice to protect and serve others. It is also an opportunity to share with us ideas that you may have to help us better serve you.
