Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement is a division of the Planning and Building Department. This main duties of Code Enforcement are:
- Educating citizens about the Avon Zoning Ordinance and Town Code
- Inspecting properties for violations
- Fielding citizen complaints
- Working with violators to ensure compliance
Code Enforcement is one of the top priorities for the Town. Code violations can have a negative impact on surrounding property values, public safety and an overall appearance of the Town. Through voluntary compliance, cooperation, a spirit of personal responsibility and community pride, conditions that create code violations can be eliminated. These acts will make the Town of Avon
Code Enforcement Procedure
- Once a complaint is received, a member of Town Staff will investigate the complaint within 2 business days.
- Upon discovery of a violation, staff will document the violation and contact the property owner to explain the violation, with steps to correct the violation and a deadline for compliance.
- After the deadline has passed, staff will re-inspect the property to ensure the violation has been corrected.
- While most property owners comply after the first notification, those who do not receive additional notices or citations.

- How long do I have to correct a violation?
- The Notice you receive from the Town will contain this information, but generally the procedure is as follows:
- 10 Day Notice to Correct
- 24 Hour Final Notice to Correct
- If the violation is still not corrected, the Town can issue a citation and a fine up to $2,500.00 a day.

- I received a violation, how can I appeal the violation?
- The Notice you receive from the Town will contain this information. If you wish to appeal a violation, please contact the Town Manager or staff.

- How do I correct a violation?
- The Notice you received from the Town will contain this information. If you have any questions, please contact the Assistant Planner or the Town Manager.

- I received a violation, but I am not the property owner?
- All property owner information is gathered from Hendricks County Tax Records. If you believe the information is incorrect, please contact Town Hall and someone from staff will investigate.

All complaints and violations are handled in a professional and confidential manner. To report a suspected violation please contact Chuck McGee, Code Enforcement Officer, at 317.272.0948 or via email. You can also use the Town's Action Center to report a violation. All complaints will be investigated within 2 business days.
