JOINT PRESS RELEASE

TOWNS OF AVON AND BROWNSBURG

TRAIL PROJECT NAMED AN INDIANA BICENTENNIAL LEGACY PROJECT

HENDRICKS COUNTY, 9-25-15 -- The aptly-named Bicentennial Trail connecting the Avon and Brownsburg trail systems was selected as a Legacy Project by the Indiana Bicentennial Commission. It was one of 80 projects around the state recently approved as Legacy Projects honoring the state's 200 years of history and leaving a legacy for future generations.

The towns of Avon and Brownsburg are sharing the costs to construct the one-mile trail between County Road 200N in Avon and the B&O Trail in Brownsburg. The B&O Trail runs east and west between the two towns and this additional leg will allow for safe non-motorized travel from Dan Jones Road at US 36 to the B&O. Design is scheduled for 2015 with construction to begin in 2016.

The Indiana Bicentennial Commission is charged with overseeing the planning and execution of a statewide celebration for Indiana’s 200th birthday. Indiana’s 2016 Bicentennial celebration aims to honor our state’s 200 years of history in a way that engages all Hoosiers and leaves a lasting legacy for future generations. The Hendricks County coordinator is Josh Duke at Visit Hendricks County. Residents interested in being involved locally may attend a kickoff meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Visit Hendricks County at 8 W. Main Street in Danville.
