Avon has been designated a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation for the year 2008. This is the second year that Avon has received Tree City USA status.
The Town is dedicated to increasing and improving Avon's urban forest. Trees that make up urban forests are "working trees"- they have a job. Urban Forests are an important and often overlooked necessity for urban areas because they soften the appearance of large buildings and parking lots, absorb carbon dioxide and release nice, clean air for us to breath. Trees also cool our hot pavement with their shade.
MRS. WHEELER'S 4TH MAP GRADE CLASS PLANTED TREES AT SYCAMORE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR ARBOR DAY. THANK YOU FOR DOING SUCH A GREAT JOB!
BIG TREE OF AVON CONTEST
Because trees are living history, the Town is going to recognize all of the big trees in town by having its first Big Tree of Avon contest this year. Residents can nominate a tree in their yard or in a neighbor's yard, common area, or roadside. To nominate a tree, simply fill out this form and turn in into the Town Hall office. You may also email, fax, or mail the form to Erin Mulryan, Projects Coordinator. Our fax is 317-272-0949, and the Town Hall address is 6570 E. US 36.
MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM
Have a tree planted in the Avon Town Hall Park in memory of a loved one, to honor a friend, or even to celebrate the birth of a baby! The cost is $250 and includes one tree approximately 1.5" in caliper, an engraved stone (to be placed by the tree), and a certificate. Click here for the order form.
